A letter from executive director Sallie Byrd: May 19, 2005 Dear Humane Society of Greater Miami and Adopt-A-Pet Supporters, You may have heard the recent news that the Humane Society of Greater Miami has decided to close its Adopt-A-Pet shelter and begin immediately a capital campaign to build a new adoption center in southern Miami-Dade County. We want to assure you that we are committed to honoring the history of Adopt-A-Pet and its founder, Roye Levin, and the tens of thousands of animals that were saved by this important organization. After much consideration, the board of the Humane Society of Greater Miami and Adopt-A-Pet has determined that the extensive repairs required at the shelter are cost prohibitive. For now we are open for business as usual, and it is a great time to adopt before we begin transferring the animals to the Humane Society of Greater Miami's other shelters. Please visit the shelter at 11900 S.W. 232nd Street, Miami to see our beautiful cats and dogs in need of a home. You can reach Adopt-A-Pet by calling 305) 257-2275. Please check back on our website at www.humanesocietymiami.org to find out more about when we plan to close the shelter permanently. We remain dedicated to having a strong presence in southern Miami-Dade County and hope that we can count on your continued support. If you would like to make a contribution to our new fundraising effort to build a new life-saving shelter, please send a contribution to:
Humane Society of Greater Miami Attn: Sallie Byrd-New South Adoption Center Campaign With your help, we will build a new adoption center that will save the lives of thousands of orphaned cats and dogs every year and reduce pet overpopulation. With your help, we will create a humane community where all companion animals have homes with responsible, committed and loving caregivers, and eliminate cruelty, neglect and pet overpopulation. And with your help, we will continue the work that Adopt-A-Pet started in southern Miami-Dade County that has meant so much to so many. Kind regards, Sallie Byrd Executive Director |
